Drainage Basins
There are three main drainage basins in Victoria, the Glenelg Drainage Basin, the Hopkins Drainage Basin and the Portland Drainage Basin. The Glenelg Drainage Basin is the main one, it starts at northeast of the basin, and travels in a westerly direction. This drainage basin gets intercepted by the Moora Moora reservoir and the Rocklands reservoir.
The Hopkins River flows into the Hopkins Drainage Basin, there are two main tributaries in the Hopkins Drainage Basin, the first one is the Fiery Creek, this one begins at the North direction of the drainage basin and goes south-westerly. The other one is called Mt Emu Creek, this one begins in the north-eastern corner of the basin in Ballarat, this tributary goes parallel to the eastern border of the basin and it eventually merges with the Hopkins River.
The Portland Drainage Basin consists of numerous waterways, they each enter the Southern Ocean at different times.
